What is Sage?

Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a potent herb that has been used by herbalists for centuries but is better known today for its use in cooking. The primary medicinal components in sage are volatile Oils, rosmarinic acid and flavonoids.

How does Sage benefit my body?

The health benefits of sage are similar to those attributed to other members of the Mint family. Sage is considered to have mild phyto-oestrogen activity which means that whilst not chemically related, it does have similarities to oestrogen. So whilst the herb cannot elicit a full oestrogen-like effect on the Body it is able to bind oestrogen receptors and this probably accounts for it's use for women going through the menopause.

Other medicinal uses of sage include those for Digestion & Gut Health complications, loss of appetite, and Heartburn.
