Maple Syrup is a relatively natural, unrefined product that is derived from the sap of the Maple Tree (Acer Palmatum). It is one of the oldest, natural forms of Sweetner around, with a history of use by the Native Indians of North America that dates back thousands of years. Maple Syrup is an ideal alternative to cane sugar because it has a lower glycemic index (54 compared to the 65 of cane sugar) as well as trace Minerals and Antioxidants, which cane sugar lacks too.
