Adding herbs & spices to your recipes is a great way to add a bit pizazz to your cooking. They are vital ingredients in many dishes adding flavour, aroma, colour, texture and even Other Nutrients to the Food.

What are spices and herbs?

As plant derived substances, it can often prove difficult to distinguish between herbs and spices. A herb is the fragrant leaves of any of various annual or perennial plants that grow in temperate zones and do not have woody stems. A spice is a pungent or aromatic seasoning obtained from the bark, buds, fruit, Seeds, stems or roots of various plants and trees. Some may have preservative or medicinal properties.

Popular herbs include Sage, Basil, Rosemary, Parsley, Thyme, and Oregano, while commonly used spices include; Ginger, Turmeric, Cinnamon and black Pepper.
