What is cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a fat, which occurs naturally in the body. In fact there is only one cholesterol, even though we talk about good and bad cholesterol.
- What is good cholesterol? Good cholesterol (HDL cholesterol) helps remove excess cholesterol from the body it is referred to as “good”.
- What is bad cholesterol? Bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) transports cholesterol to all the cells in the body. What cells cannot use remains in the circulation and, if present in high amounts, can be deposited. Hence the name “bad”.
Two thirds of all cholesterol is produced by the body, once third is derived from what we eat. As always, good health is your decision, i.e. by choosing a healthy and varied diet.
What is DHA?
DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) is an omega 3 fatty acid and a primary structural component of the brain, Skin, retina and cerebral cortex. Most DHA is found in almost exclusively in animal foods, such as seafood, pasture-raised meat and some dairy products.
What is EPA?
Like DHA, Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) is also a long chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), and a precursor to DHA. EPA has numerous antiatherosclerotic effects including vasodilation, antiplatelet aggregation, and anti-inflammation.
What are the benefits of EPA and DHA?
The body can only make very small amounts of DHA from other fatty acids, so it is essential to consume it, along with EPA, directly from foods or from a supplement like Minami Nutrition MorEPA Cholesterol Capsules. Together, EPA and DHA contribute the normal function of the heart with a daily intake of at least 250mg EPA & DHA (1 softgel/day). On its own, DHA supports brain & eye health, men’s reproductive systems, and circulation, while EPA is thought to benefit those with Depression, and women during the Menopause.
