What are Probiotics?
Our bodies are full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are living organisms that are found naturally in foods such as yoghurt and they are known as ‘good’ or ‘friendly’ bacteria because they are the cornerstones to good health. Lactobacilli strains in particular play a starring role in vaginal flora and intimate health, but a healthy urinary system relies on them too. Bifidobacterium strains colonise the lower bowel, the flora of which are closely linked to the urinary system specifically in women.
What are the symptoms of an imbalanced flora?
When the delicate balance of flora is disrupted, it affects the pH balance in the vagina and women can experience problems such as itching, discomfort, and thrush. Poor flora in the vagina and bowel contribute to cystitis, particularly if infection is recurrent.
Why are B vitamins important to female health?
Biotin is one of the B Vitamins required for maintaining healthy mucous membranes – these are the linings of both the urinary system & the vagina onto which healthy bacteria colonise. Vitamin B6 is used by women for hormonal activity and immune function. *Higher Nature Pro-Woman contains both biotin & vitamin B6.
