More Information
What is Tea Tree oil?
Tea Tree oil (TTO) is derived from the leaves of the Australian Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia). It has been used for thousands of years by the indigenous population of Australia.
What is Terpinen-4-OL?
Terpinen-4-OL is one of the largest terpenes (volatile unsaturated hydrocarbons found in the essential oils of plants) found in Tea Tree oil and is thought to be responsible for most of it's antibacterial, antiseptic and antifungal properties. Optima can guarantee each of their Tea Tree oil products contains a minimum of 38% Terpinen-4-OL (International Standards require that Tea Tree oil contains between 30-48% Terpinen-4-OL).
What are parabens?
Parabens are chemicals widely used as preservatives in both the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. Although there is ongoing dispute, discussions and research into the danger, irritation and toxicity of this particular ingredient there is enough proof and negative findings, backed by case, to preempt brands such as Optima to avoid using them in their products. All Optima Australian Tea Tree products are paraben free.
What is SLS?
SLS, Sodium lauryl sulfate, is a detergent.; a foaming agent found in many cosmetic products such as toothpaste, shower gel and shampoo. SLES, Sodium laureth sulfate and ALS, Ammonium lauryl sulfate, are other variations commonly used in cosmetic products too. Although there are ongoing arguments in the severity, depending on the quantity and concentration, these ingredients are considered toxic skin irritants and are still used in our everyday toiletries. Optima ensure their tea tree product range is free from SLS, SLES and ALS and therefore free from the risk of irritation. If you are suffering from scalp irritations or complaints it could be worth trying SLS free hair products.
